The reason I wanted to invest in activewear is because it has become socially acceptable to wear it for different types of occasion. I also discovered the athleisure trend that’s been growing. To do a market research, we started going to malls and try the common activewear brands that we know. From what I see is that their products are common, conventional, and boring. So I decided to look elsewhere, outside of Malaysia. After hours of scouring through the web, I finally found the right activewear that caught my eyes. After placing the order, there are certain fees that I need to bare and of course, the wait is longer than shopping from a local online store. This is the downside of it.

That was when the Fitmall concept came up. I wanted to create a place where people are able to discover unique and exciting products without the hassle of international shopping and shipping. After realising this, I began brand sourcing and product testing, while creating Fitmall’s mission and vision. The initial idea of Fitmall is to consistently bring in exciting activewear for Malaysians and also to tap into the athleisure market. It didn’t take long until I heard about FIBO.

FIBO is an international fitness convention that is the leading event in the fitness industry. There were a few countries including USA and China that held this event. So me and my partner Avery decided to join the one in Shanghai, China in August 2018 for three days. The purpose of this trip is to get more understanding and ideas of the fitness industry and probably meet a few brands that we can work with. During the three days, we managed to talk to 15 suppliers. From there, we shared the idea of Fitmall with them and they were really helpful by giving us opinion & advice on Fitmall’s concept.

After FIBO, just like any other startups, we were faced with financial constraints. Which led to me finding investors, I was very fortunate to meet quite a number of investors that buy into the Fitmall concept and they also helped by giving ideas on how to perfect Fitmall.

Besides my investors, I shared this idea with friends and family to ask for opinions and suggestions. One of things that stood out to me was the point that people nowadays are tech savvy and technologies are as advanced as ever. So I was asked “why should people buy from Fitmall instead of purchasing directly from the brand store?”. After thinking about the question, I came up with Fitmall’s core value, which is the ability to shop unique and exciting brands without the hassle of international online shopping.

Apart from that, we make it a procedure to test our products before making it available for the Malaysian market. Furthermore, our business is dealt in Ringgit so that our customers don’t have to deal with the burden of currency conversion and we ensure them a secure and safe online shopping experience by offering free return and free shipping. What’s most important to me is that people who come to Fitmall will be able to discover unique and exciting brands in the most convenient way.

2016年,在民宿热潮渐起的趋势下,我开启了人生中第一次创业的旅程,目标成为马来西亚版的airbnb这样一个共享经济平台。一直到2018年,因为股东之间的价值观得不到共识,选择了将其出售。在同年5月份正式把企业转手给了新业主,正式结束了生涯里第一个自创企业。

由于怀揣着强烈的创业梦,因此我与Avery一直寻找着新的创业机会。虽然当时没有任何员工和事务,但依然坚持每天早上都准时到公司。主要是不想让自己颓废下来。为了避免心中想创业的热忱渐退,当时我们觉得必须开始运动因为我们觉得是保持动力的最佳工具。与此同时,由于意识到健身的热潮,也想让身材更加好看便选择了健身。

当我们开始去看看不同的健身服饰的时,发觉市面上一般的activewear都过于沉闷。可能为了贪方便,我们一直想找到一个能“一物多用”的服饰。于是我们便开始在网上搜索这类型的服饰,让我们发现了Atheleisure, Athlete & Leisure 这两个字的结合,概念就是把运动和休闲的元素结合起来。我们发现原来在世界各地都有很多正在提倡着“Athleisure”的新品牌。

在了解了Athleisure的发展趋势后,我们突然意识到这将会是接下来的主流。人们都希望以最不麻烦的方式从“工作模式”在下班后转换到“健身模式”。那结合以上两个观点,我们就有了想要提倡“上班或逛街后,不需更换衣服便直接健身”的概念。

我们想建立一个让消费者可以选购各款各式的Athleisure服饰与配件的集合式平台,于是有了Fitmall。在筹备Fitmall的前期,由于Avery向来比较擅长产品搜索和筛选,所以她负责大部分的产品相关工作;我则对企业的商业模式比较感兴趣,因而我在初期的大部分时间都花在市场调查和巩固Fitmall的模式。后来我们得知上海即将举办一年一度的巨星健身展(FIBO),参展的商家都是跟健身领域相关的企业,我们马上订了机票决定过去见识一下,也想趁这机会拜访一下潜在的品牌/供应商。

展会前后共3天,为了避免错失任何机会,我们在抵达上海前麻烦展会工作人员让我们安排预见几家我们较感兴趣的商家。在工作人员热心地帮忙下,我们在展会期间里共见了15家商家的代表,除了从他们口中得到一些相关的讯息以外,我们也趁这机会呈现Fitmall的概念让他们了解,并咨询了很多意见。大部分商家对Fitmall的概念都看好,有些商家还因此更踊跃地想与Fitmall合作,这对我们而言是非常重要的肯定。随后我和Avery便带着满满的信心和潜在商家的联络方式回到了马来西亚,正式开始启动Fitmall。

当然跟大部分年轻创业者一样,我们手上有的资金非常有限,但我们当时也没有太多顾虑,就知道得先开始。随后的一段时间里,我们开始面对着资金短缺的情况,便开始寻找投资者注资。我们非常幸运,在找到了志道相同的投资者后,对方除了注资以外,还给了我们很多发展方向的意见。当我们开始与身边的人分享Fitmall时,很多人都有一些疑问“为什么我要跟你买,那些品牌本身没有网站吗?如今电子商务那么发达,消费者不能够去其品牌网站直接下单吗?”

其实我们非常感恩有这些问题的出现,这让我们绞尽脑汁地去寻找“卖点”给我们的用户。我们就从消费者痛点出发,其中包括以下几点:

  • 相信如果有在外国网站买过东西的消费者,一定会有相关的经验,就是运费一般很高。有时甚至发现运费还比产品本身的价格来的高,这让人在付款时有着“莫名其妙“的感觉。
  • 当然电子商务发展到如今那么发达的时代,很多品牌都能提供免运的服务。但我们也察觉到一般国外免运至本地的门槛都很高。比如说最低消费都在RM300或以上才能免运,试问多少人能够每次都够花上这比数额啊?即使能与朋友凑买,但每次这样做也太麻烦了吧?
  • 再来的问题我相信大部分的人也应该有过这样的经验,就是从国外运来的包裹一般时间比较比较长。我们试过从外国网上买衣服,足足等了20天。收到包裹时都差点忘了自己有买过。
  • 另外我们也发现网上买衣服很多时候会担心尺码不合的情况,但由于网上下单又不能试;货到了很多时候也不能退换或退款,这让消费者体验差了很多

因此在分析了消费者的种种消费痛点后,我们设计了一个以客户利益为先的消费模式。
